Millersburg

Welcome to the virtual tour of the Millersburg location of Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc.The photos and descriptions of this facility show our recently remodeled building and areas. We begin our tour with our new main entrance located at the rear of the building adjacent to the parking lot where you will take notice to the stained glass doors. These doors were custom designed and built for the remodeling of the funeral home in 1983.

The designs of roses and lillies (left) and a peace dove holding an olive branch (right) were created by a company in Wilkes-Barre, PA especially for Hoover Funeral Home.

As you continue inside the funeral home you will note the spacious main foyer with tiled floors and a coat deposit.

To the left of the main foyer is the hallway leading to the water cooler and restrooms.

Both restrooms are nicely appointed with a clean white look and baby changing stations.

In the front of the main foyer you will see the cranberry glass cross window which was part of the french decorating of the home of Richard and Elizabeth Hoover of Berrysburg. Richard Hoover was the owner of Hoover Funeral Home from 1930 until 1976. The glass in this window is over 100 years old and was taken from the Hoover residence in 1947, kept in storage until 1983 when it was added to the decor of the Millersburg funeral home.

As you enter the main area of the funeral home you will come across the register stand and entrance to the office.

In this area you will find the rear of the chapel with an area for extra seating making the capacity for the funeral home near 130 seats.

The main part of the chapel includes the front seating area with exit to the front foyer, and seating directly in front of the casket display area, and the east end of the chapel provides even more comfortable seating.

At the very front of the chapel is the casket display area this section of the funeral home is part of an extention built where there used to be a porch.

This area allows for easy exit of the funeral home for flowers and the casket meeting the pallbearers and hearse directly outside all under a roof for protection from the weather.

Finally the front foyer of the funeral home displays our leaded glass windows and houses the grand staircase.

At the first landing of the grand staircase you will notice the stained glass window that has been in this building since it was built as the residence of A.G. Bashore former president of the First National Bank of Millersburg which is still next door as Community Banks. After the death of Mr. Bashore the residence was purchased by Clifford L.Sterner in 1957 and made this building his funeral home. In 1971 it became Hoover Funeral Home and was purchased by Dale N. and L. Richard Hoover. The building went through several renovations over the years the most recent being the summer and fall of 2003.
